1/11/2024 0 Comments Mitchell otomatic manualThe design combined the chassis of an OF-40, with a new turret mounting the Otobreda 76 mm gun along with associated search and targeting radars and their fire control systems: an S search radar SMA VPS-A05, with around 15 km range against aircraft and 8 km against helicopters in hovering and a fire control unit SMA VPG-A06 (Ka band). Designed and built by OTO Melara, it was armed with a single 76 mm naval gun. Now I have a headache. The OTO Main Anti-aircraft Tank for Intercept and Combat (shortened as Otomatic, a play on Automatic and OTO) was an Italian self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG) prototype. Knowing that serial number sequence on all models with the classic egg-shaped (300) body on all models were in order, we know these hit 10,000,000 very near the time Mitchell celebrated 20,000,000.ĭan, I know you already know most of what I said, the details were for other who don't. On the other hand, another big IF this was a celebration of all reels being made by Mitchell in 1957 which would include the 300, 304, 330 Otomatic, 350 Rapid and the 302 they would not line up by maybe one year. Personally I believe this is the case but other than the reel itself, we have no documentation one way or the other. If, and that's a big IF, this was celebrating the Mitchell 300 reel, the serial numbers line up very close. The biggest unknown is the specifics behind the Mitchell 300 1,000,000 celebration in 1957. Did they start the count in 1939 or more likely 1946 or did the count start at the beginning of serial numbers in 1949/50? Probably not but was the CAP included prior to Mitchell name being added? Knowing now you're referring to production vs serial numbers I'll try to give my best opinion which in no way can be accurate for a few reasons. Was just kidding you but really didn't understand the question. Are you referring to dating by serial numbers? Wallace Sorry but I don't understand what these have to do with serial number sequence, please explain or rephrase. Now for the trick question regarding commemorative reels. I've also found the same "one digit off" serial numbers both of which were bought from the same seller. It's also evidence that these numbers were not duplicated. Mitchell 300 series reels came in 6 or 12 pack boxes that where distributed to retailers so to me it's not surprising they sold these in serial number sequence but only to a certain degree. Starting in 1977 releases I have found MANY with the same serial numbers clear to 1988 with less than 100 documented. One might say I just haven't found one yet, maybe even impossible but that's not true. None of these have the same serial number. ![]() ![]() ![]() You have my first release of this sheet which you can verify covers most but not all aesthetic aspects of each reel. How do the serial numbers line up with this info? Danĭan, I broke this off under a new topic, hope you don't mind.Īs you know I have a spreadsheet documenting Mitchell serial numbers that has now grown to over 1,200 classic Mitchell egg-shape housings but mostly the 300 series from 1939 to 1977. Next question is: There were certain commemorative reels issued for meeting certain production milestones.like 1 million, 20 Million, etc. ![]() So apparently that dealer was selling reels with consecutive serial numbers. These were approximately 1960 model reels. What I got was 2 reels with a serial number only one digit off from the other-the last numbers were the digits that were one off from the other. The best I have been able to do is buy two identical Mitchell 306's unused in boxes, from one dealer in Germany, with matching serial numbers on the boxes. I think it best if we could find identical serial numbers on reels as evidence that this occurred prior to '74. I could see ordering lots of reels with the same model numbers, but why serial numbers?
